Transformation 2026 — Week 2: Build the Anaerobic Engine
Last week we got the number on the board. This week we start earning a better one. The spring base was aerobic — long, steady, repairing. But basketball is not a mile run at an even pace. It is a series of all-out efforts with short, incomplete rest, over and over, for four quarters. This week we start training the system that actually plays the game.
If Week 2 feels comfortable, you are not doing it right.
The running
The work shifts from steady to sharp. Rest stays short on purpose — incomplete recovery is exactly what a game feels like.
8 x 200m, faster than mile pace, 60 seconds rest. Not a sprint, not a jog — the fast, repeatable pace that teaches the legs to recover while still moving.
Lines / suicides: 6 sets, each under your target time, 90 seconds rest. This is basketball conditioning in its purest form. Baseline to foul line to half to far foul line to far baseline, and back. Hit the time every set or the set does not count.
The court
Live reads win this week. 1-on-1 and 2-on-2 to a score, full effort, short rest between games. Competition is conditioning you do not notice you are doing — and it forces skill at game speed, under a real defender, while tired.
Strength
Stay in the power range. Med-ball throws, box jumps, band-resisted sprints. Explosive and fast. We are building force you can produce quickly, not weight you can move slowly.
The week
Mon — 8 x 200m @ faster than mile pace (60s rest)
Tue — Strength (power) + shooting
Wed — Live 1-on-1 / 2-on-2 to a score, short rest
Thu — Off or easy movement
Fri — Lines/suicides, 6 sets under target (90s rest)
Weekend — one off day, one easy day
The standard
Remember why we accelerate now: Reset and Transformation was always about moving off a reliance on the top 3 players and onto the top 8. The anaerobic engine is where your 6th, 7th, and 8th players decide whether the team can trust them in the fourth quarter. Build it now, or watch someone else take the minutes in the fall.
